Capoeira Angola is an Afro-Brazilian martial art that combines graceful movements, percussive instrumentation, and call-and-response songs into a “beautiful game” practiced within a roda — a circle of participants.
It was developed by enslaved Africans from Angola and the Congo who brought fighting, dance, and music traditions to Brazil. Capoeira is the art of cultural liberation — born from a desire for freedom that remains central today.
Capoeira Angola Center Kibera was established by Contra-Mestre Salim Rollins, a disciple of Grand Mestre João Grande since 1995. As the first African branch of Mestre João’s Capoeira Angola Center, CAC Kibera reconnects the art with its ancestral roots on the continent.
First Term 2026 average attendance: ~34 youth per class. Public rodas extend learning into Kibera streets and Nairobi green spaces.
